When the office next door to our Kingsbridge head office was vacated, we saw an opportunity to launch a coworking space for remote workers and freelancers in the area, offering flexible desk space, meeting facilities and a professional working environment. It was also an opportunity to demonstrate our sustainable furniture strategy within a working office. The office required a full space plan and fit-out, delivered to the same standard we apply for clients. The brief was clear: quality used furniture wherever feasible, standardised throughout, with no compromise on comfort or consistency.

Solution

Design Approach
We space planned the full layout to maximise headcount. Individual desks, a meeting room, shared kitchen, an acoustic phone booth for private calls, and personal lockers for every member. Comfort and wellbeing shaped every decision, from height-adjustable desks to ergonomic task chairs, with the layout designed to make the most of natural light throughout.

Furniture Strategy
Desks, chairs, storage, soft seating and meeting room furniture were quality used, sourced specifically to furnish UNIT 2 to a single, consistent standard. New carpet, kitchen units and desk screens completed the fit-out. Standardisation mattered as much as sustainability; every member has the same quality of desk and task chair. Six months after opening, a matching reused desk and chair were sourced to add an extra workspace, keeping the space fully cohesive.

Project Delivery
We managed the full fit-out from space planning through to furniture sourcing and installation. The same end-to-end process we bring to every client project, applied to our own space.

The result is a comfortable and considered coworking space furnished entirely with the sustainable approach we recommend to our clients.
