Weightmans, a leading UK law firm, issued a brief to refurbish the third floor of their central London office, aiming to create a more functional and welcoming environment that would encourage staff to return to the workplace. We were brought into the project by Celltarga Construction to support this transformation with a comprehensive furniture and space planning solution.
A key objective was to increase headcount by replacing outdated 120-degree desks with a more efficient bench desking layout. The client also wanted to redesign their social areas, creating an open, multipurpose hub with a tea point, suitable for breaks, informal catch-ups, meetings, and town hall events.
As the business would remain operational throughout the refurbishment, it was essential to minimise disruption and deliver the project in carefully planned phases.
The space also needed to accommodate existing furniture, requiring a design that reused and reconfigured key pieces to maximise functionality and minimise waste.
Our team led the furniture consultancy, space planning, delivery, and installation to deliver a seamless and successful transformation tailored to Weightmans’ needs.
Design & Planning
We collaborated closely with the client over the designs through video calls, using detailed floor plans and 3D renders to visualise the finished project. This approach enabled us to discuss any challenges and solutions in a face-to-face setting, ensuring the design met their operational and aesthetic requirements while maintaining an efficient and interactive process.
Phased Delivery & Installation
To keep the office fully operational, we devised a three-phase clearance and installation programme, dividing the floor into distinct zones. This allowed us to complete the works without closing the entire floor, significantly reducing disruption and ensuring staff could continue working throughout the process.
Furniture Clearance & Reuse
We removed and recycled the outdated desking and breakout furniture, while retaining and relocating key pieces—such as soft seating—to areas where they would be more functional and better utilised. Existing task chairs were also reused as part of a sustainable and cost-efficient approach.
Social Space
Closed meeting rooms were relocated to open up the floorplate and reveal windows, allowing natural light to flow into the newly expanded open-plan social area. This space, complete with feature lighting, now serves as a central hub for both collaboration and relaxation.
