Screwfix, a large national retailer, needed an urgent update of their central call centre in Yeovil. Their existing layout was outdated and non-compliant, requiring a transformation to support agile working, staff wellbeing, and modern breakout and training spaces.
The biggest hurdle was that the call centre operated 24/7, meaning there was no downtime for the fit-out. Acoustics were also a significant issue, with the need to reduce noise levels in an open-plan environment. The client wanted a strong brand presence in the design, incorporating their bold corporate colours while ensuring the space felt balanced and well-integrated.
With four years of experience working with Screwfix, we understood their requirements and delivered a phased, low-disruption installation while incorporating acoustic enhancements, agile workspaces, and brand-led design.
Phased Installation: To minimise disruption, we divided the space into six sections, completing the fit-out in phases. A large marquee was set up outside to assemble furniture before bringing it indoors, reducing noise impact. We also worked around the clock, taking advantage of quieter periods.
Acoustics: We addressed noise concerns with acoustic carpet, padded screen panels, soft furnishings, booths, and ceiling rafts, significantly improving sound control across the call centre.
Brand-Driven Design: We maintained Screwfix’s strong brand identity by incorporating their signature colours, complemented by a third, carefully selected colour to define different zones and break-out spaces.
Agile & Functional Workspaces: The new layout introduced flexible meeting spaces, breakout areas, and a dedicated training room, supporting modern ways of working while enhancing staff wellbeing.
Complete Design & Fit-Out Service: We managed the entire process, from design and colour schemes to acoustic consultation, furniture sourcing, and installation, ensuring a seamless transformation.
By balancing brand identity, acoustic solutions, and a phased installation approach, we successfully delivered a modern, agile workspace without disrupting Screwfix’s 24/7 operations.
We started working with Broadbase in 2016. The brief was to update the workstations, breakout and agile working areas. Broadbase’s creative space planning and product specification, delivered a bespoke solution on time and on budget. The hands on approach and great communication from the team made the process run smoothly. As such we have continued to work with Broadbase on similar projects for a number of years since.
